The key is a simple dichotomous one. The optimal screen resolution is 1024 x 768 pixels. Scroll bars will appear on the key window for lower resolutions. Red is the active colour. The few exceptions are the maps where the red distribution points are not active. The maps open in browser windows that are 640 x 480 pixels but they scale up or down with the size of the window. There is one menu. It is a direct route to orders, families, genera and species. It has two other sub-menus, a glossary and a navigation sub-menu that lets you jump back to genera, family or order. To close the Glossary, there is a red [close glossary] button at the bottom of the 'illustrated terms' buttons. Magnified Graphic images (magnified using the [%2B] sign) appear in a circle and can be dragged around the stage as can the digital ones. The digital ones can also be magnified. This applies to all digital images where they are available. Distribution maps have a magnification area in the bottom right corner. Choose a magnification factor from above it and a red window that can be dragged will appear on the map. As you move it, the area inside it will appear in the magnification area. The virtual centipede head accessed from this screen is recommended only for those with a broadband connection. It is just over I Mb in size. It shows the head of a Scolopendra from all angles which is one of the most useful areas for centipede identification.
