Agricultural

Exotic invasive weeds a major threat to the long-term viability of Australia's multi-billion dollar agricultural industries. They can be toxic to humans and stock and compete with crops and pasture species. They are estimated to cost Australian farmers $3.3 billion per annum to control.

Environmental

Environmental weeds threaten natural ecosystems by out-competing native plants thus reducing plant diversity and destroying the habitat of native animals. They can cause significant degradation of bush areas. Many plants introduced into Australia in the last 200 years are now environmental weeds.
