Diagnosis

Small to medium-sized, mostly brown beetles with long to very long banded antennae extending well beyond elytral apices. Frontoclypeus transverse. Eyes very large, coarsely facetted and distinctly emarginate; lower lobes narrowly separated ventrally. Antennal tubercles moderately separated, close to mandibular articulation. Antennal foramen depressed. Antennal scape stout, distinctly shorter than pronotum; pedicel very short and transverse; antennomere 3 about as long as scape. Pronotum about as long as wide, lateral margins nodulose or with short spine near middle; pronotal disc without defined tubercles. Prosternal process narrow, expanded apically, strongly arched. Procoxal cavities transverse with broad lateral extensions exposing protrochantins; open externally. Procoxae projecting below prosternal process. Mesoventrite flat anteriorly; mesoventral intercoxal process weakly notched apically. Mesocoxal cavities distinctly separated medially, with secondary articulation, broadly open to mesepimeron; mesotrochantin exposed. Elytra without costae; elytral punctures clearly visible, not in striae. Femora and tibiae not flattened.

Distribution and Biology

Didymocantha is a small genus with around a dozen species known from Australia and New Zealand. Australian species are distributed in coastal and inland areas of most states and the Northern Territory. it has not been collected in Tasmania or the Australian Capital Territory.
