There are only 2 families of alderflies and dobsonflies found throughout the world consisting of just 300 species. Both families are represented in Australia, but only 26 species are present. In the past the members of the Megaloptera have been included in Neuroptera. They are now regarded as a separate order based on morphological differences in the larval stages. The two families in this order are the Sialidae known as alderflies and the Corydalidae known as the dobsonflies. Follow the links below to find out more on the Megaloptera families.
